Born This Way

Zacchaeus had a good excuse not to bother trying to see Jesus. He was short and could not see over the crowd. He was born that way. And still today, people protest that their natural state excuses them from their human duty to repent and obey God. People claim that they were “born the way God wants them to be, so why should they change?” But they are of course missing the point. The Bible teaches all that our natural state is conceived in sin. Your natural state is a sinner. Through the sabotaging work of Satan in the Garden of Eden, resulting in Adam and Eve’s corrupted DNA, in mind, soul, body and spirit, even if you an attractive, intelligent and perfectly formed and normal human being, you are still a perverted mutation of what God originally intended humanity to be. You are corrupted by the sin that you were born with.

Thus, your duty is to fight against your natural tendency, and battle against your handicap, mortify the deeds of your body, and resist fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. You must never give in to your natural tendencies, but instead you must cast off all excuses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and use any and every means possible to reach Jesus to ask His forgiveness, so that He can birth you again as a new creation and thus give you power to escape temptation. If you can’t be bothered to fight against the natural obstacles, tendencies and handicaps of your sin-warped mind and body, and would sooner excuse yourself, wallow, and glorify yourself in them, you will never see Heaven.
